Our mission - animal souls

We want to end the suffering of Romania's street dogs by 2050.

Tierseelen is a social organization dedicated to ending the suffering of Romania's street dogs. Through the sale of our products, we aim to harness the power of business for a positive cause, specifically to support our partner organization, Hunderettung Europa, by providing them with financial resources.

Our origin story

Tierseelen was founded on the belief that companies can be a force for good and that the small decisions we make collectively every day have the power to change the world.


And then Bolle came...

Ole was inspired to found this organization after his family adopted a dog from Romania – Bolle. Before the adoption process, they received many pictures and videos that left a lasting impression. Bolle was nothing like the dog in the pictures. He was a mere shell of his former self, emaciated and utterly terrified.


Ole immediately became aware of the plight of Romania's street dogs and quickly realized that things couldn't continue as they were. As a student, however, Ole couldn't provide significant financial resources for rescuing the animals, so he had to come up with a solution...

While researching possible solutions, Ole came across the organization Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe). He was immediately impressed by their work and contacted them. Initially, he considered volunteering, but that simply wasn't enough to achieve the impact Ole was aiming for.

That's why he came up with an idea: What if we could use the power of the economy for something good? Couldn't we also finance our donations through the sale of our products?

While researching possible solutions, Ole came across the organization Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe). He was immediately impressed by their work and contacted them. Initially, he considered volunteering, but that simply wasn't enough to achieve the impact Ole was aiming for.

That's why he came up with an idea: What if we could use the power of the economy for something good? Couldn't we also finance our donations through the sale of our products?

Hundreds of animal souls later

Thanks to the incredible support of our animal welfare family, we have been able to give hundreds of four-legged friends the chance for a new life and donate four-figure sums to our partner every month.

For example, we were able to donate one of the first X-ray machines to the volunteer animal welfare workers in Cuba. In addition to our direct donations, we also regularly sponsor animals ourselves. We currently have 18 animals, and the number is growing every month. We are overjoyed to have become a family of such animal-loving and kind-hearted people and are grateful for every single contribution – also on behalf of the furry friends.

A social enterprise is being created.

In the following weeks, Ole developed ideas for products with which he could finance donations to the dog rescue organization, Hunderettung Europa. He ultimately decided on a bracelet because it was a wearable symbol of the mission, one that would stimulate conversations about animal welfare and remind people to get involved and contribute to helping animals in need.

The idea was incredibly well received, and within a short time, thanks to the support of its loyal helpers, Tierseelen was able to offer additional products to finance its mission. These included, for example, biodegradable mobile phone cases and high-quality sterling silver jewelry.

The plight of stray dogs is increasing. These vulnerable creatures are subjected to unimaginable suffering on the streets. We at Tierseelen (Animal Souls) have made it our mission to address this urgent problem by rescuing and caring for these precious lives in need.


Our entire company is focused on selling our products, with the proceeds used to fund vital donations to our partner organization, Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe). Through this partnership, we strive to significantly improve the lives of abandoned dogs by providing them with shelter, medical care, and the chance for a better future.

In this short video, Svenja and Carina, the founders of Dog Rescue Europe, tell you about our collaboration and their experience working with us. We are incredibly happy that our work is so well received and that we can demonstrably make a difference in the lives of these furry friends.

Our sponsored animals

While we already rescue countless furry friends every month through our direct donations, we've decided to also sponsor our own animals. We want to better understand the stories and personalities of the rescued animals, and sponsorship is the perfect way for us to do this. Furthermore, our volunteers can learn even more about the animals' lives through our information cards when placing their orders.

Lotte

Our Lotte was the first dog we sponsored, and that's why she holds a special place in our hearts. She was rescued from one of the many kill shelters through our partner, Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe) – a place she most likely wouldn't have left alive.


Lotte is rather insecure by nature, which is naturally related to her past. When the caretakers enter her kennel, she quickly becomes nervous and doesn't know what to do with herself. She accepts treats cautiously, and sometimes brief petting sessions are possible, but then she quickly withdraws again. However, she gets along very well with other dogs and is quite sociable.

Louis

Louis was found in December 2021 in a dilapidated house in Romania, along with approximately 30 other dogs. This phenomenon is known as animal hoarding. Animals are collected by a person until they can no longer care for them and abandon them. The animals then usually have to live in their own excrement and are plagued by numerous diseases.


Louis was brought to the animal shelter along with the other dogs and is now receiving comprehensive care. He has been very friendly so far, but withdraws when things get too busy. He enjoys relaxing or playing with the other dogs in the shelter's playground. There, he also allows the caretakers to pet him, whereas he tends to keep his distance in confined spaces, such as his kennel. However, it's clear that he seeks human contact and enjoys being petted.



Fips

Little Fips is approximately 2-4 years old and was rescued from a kill shelter in December 2021. These so-called "public shelters" are terrible places full of violence and have a profound impact on a poor animal's soul.


Fips is understandably shy, but very friendly and is slowly warming up. Once he opens up a bit, he immediately gets playful and shows his lively side. He's a little cautious around other dogs, but he's showing more and more confidence and improving every day.


Meo

Meo is a particularly beautiful dog. He was born around 2012, is 60 cm tall and weighs approximately 30 kg. He was rescued from a kill shelter in September 2020 and has been living at the animal shelter of our partner organization, Hunderettung Europa, ever since.


Meo is very affectionate with the people he knows. He's a typical herding dog and not very open to new people. He's also territorial (as this type of dog should be) regarding his space, which is why he barks so much at the fence. He's very playful and easy to handle once he gets to know people. He walks well on a leash. Unfortunately, he doesn't get along very well with other dogs.


Miro

Our Miro was born around 2017, is 55 cm tall and weighs 20 kg. He has been with our partner animal shelter since March 2021 and was rescued from the streets by our wonderful volunteers. He currently has conjunctivitis, but our competent veterinarians are treating him on-site, so he should be feeling better soon.


He gets along well with other dogs, but so far he's rather reserved and prefers to be alone. Currently, Miro is unfortunately still fearful of people, but we're sure he'll warm up to them over the next few months.


Calibus

Calibus was rescued around 2019, is 65 cm tall and weighs 28 kg. He was found by our partner Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe) at the home of a woman with a mental illness who kept many neglected dogs.


Calibus is a really big baby. He loves lots of attention, hugs, and kisses. He's super playful, very well-behaved on a leash, and curious about everything. He's friendly and gets along well with people and other dogs. Calibus loves going for walks, but he doesn't like sharing his human with other dogs. He can be a bit possessive at times and might squeeze in between other dogs when they're being petted.


Snoopy

Our Snoopy was born around 2019, is 55cm tall and weighs 35kg. He has been living with our partner animal shelter since last month and, like Sally, was rescued from the area around Tarlungeni.


He is both sociable with other dogs and incredibly sweet with people. Unfortunately, he has the typical branding scar on his muzzle that many people in Romania give their dogs, believing it protects them from disease.


Sally

Our sweet dog Sally was rescued together with Snoopy. She was born around 2021, is 50 cm tall and weighs 25 kg.


She is also very sociable, both with other dogs and with people, and has settled in wonderfully at the shelter. The caretakers are especially fond of her, as she has mastered the puppy-dog eyes, as you can see in the picture.


Peanut

Our Peanut, like the other furry friends, arrived at our partner animal shelter in June 2022 and was born around 2019. Sadly, the little darling was simply abandoned on the street by her previous owners, which truly breaks our hearts.


She is very sociable with dogs, but unfortunately still extremely fearful of people. Our partners at Dog Rescue Europe will continue to work intensively with her so that she learns to trust people again.



Willow

Our dog Willow has been at the animal shelter of our partner Hunderettung Europa eV since June 2022 and was born around 2019. This sweet dog is social with both people and other dogs.


At first, she was very timid, especially when she was with her baby. Now, however, she's overjoyed when you come near her and even starts to "smile" when you call her name. She's also incredibly playful and very clever.

Susi

Susi, a female dog, has been with our partner animal shelter since June 2022 and was born around 2021. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car on the street.


She suffered a broken pelvis and has already undergone surgery. She is currently learning to walk again and is receiving physiotherapy. She is social with both people and other dogs, even though she is rather shy.


Tinka

She is a beautiful female dog who was rescued from the streets two days ago by our partner, Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe). She is approximately two years old and now lives in the animal shelter, where she can settle in safely and get to know our animal caretakers in peace.


As you probably know, street dogs in countries like Romania don't have it easy. They are often attacked, tortured, and killed simply for living on the streets. Tinka was one of these dogs who had to fight for her survival every single day.


Buddy

Buddy was born around May 2022, is 30cm tall and weighs 10kg. He was fortunately rescued from the kill shelter in December 2022, along with many other dogs, as part of the last rescue operation.


Buddy is very sociable with other dogs and people. According to our animal caretakers, he clearly enjoys human contact but is still unsure whether he can fully trust us. Of course, we will be working on this continuously so that he can regain his trust in people. Otherwise, he is a truly sweet and lovely little dog.

Merlin

Merlin, our new sponsored dog, has unfortunately had a rough start in life. The little male dog was simply abandoned by his owner and had to wander around alone until he was finally found by our animal rescuers. We were all very shocked when we saw Merlin's inflamed eye and immediately took him to the vet.


Although he is already 14 years old, he is fighting bravely and not giving up. Our veterinarians are taking loving care of him, and we hope he will soon be healthy again. Merlin is a true treasure and deserves to spend many more happy years in a loving home.


Nelly

Nelly, an adorable dog, was rescued from a kill shelter in Romania. She has a troubled past, but thanks to our dedicated partners on the ground, she escaped a terrible fate. Nelly came to our shelter in January 2023, where we lovingly care for her.


Nelly is a shy and reserved dog. It takes time and patience to gain her trust and overcome her fears. However, she is good with other dogs and, with the right care, will surely overcome her insecurities.

Silver

Silver, our brave dog, is one of our Christmas miracle dogs. In December 2022, thanks to generous donations, we were able to rescue all approximately 250 dogs from a Romanian kill shelter. Now Silver lives happily in our animal shelter and is hoping for his loving adoptive parents.


Silver is a reserved sweetheart at the animal shelter. He cautiously opens up to people and needs time to build trust, which is not surprising given his past. However, he gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys their company.

Schlecki

Schlecki was born around 2021, is 36cm tall and weighs 7kg. She has been living with our partner animal shelter since April 2023 and was rescued from the Tarlungeni area. Our partner has agreements with the city there. Instead of being taken from kill shelters, the animals are now collected by us!


Schlecki was found wandering the streets and was immediately very curious and approachable for the caretakers. He spends a lot of time with the other animals and is currently settling in very well at the shelter. We hope he finds his forever home soon.
