Our sponsored animals
Our goal is to sustainably improve the lives of dogs in need. We achieve this primarily by donating approximately 30% of our proceeds to Hunderettung Europa e.V. (Dog Rescue Europe), which enables them to carry out fantastic projects in crisis areas such as Romania and Bulgaria.
However, we have also decided to take on individual sponsorships with rescued dogs in order to learn more about the individual fates of the four-legged friends and to accompany them on their journey to a better life.
Below we would like to introduce you to our small group of sponsored animals and tell you a little about them.
Lotte - our snowflake
Our Lotte was the first dog we sponsored, and that's why she holds a special place in our hearts. She was rescued from one of the many kill shelters through our partner, Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe) – a place she most likely wouldn't have left alive.
Lotte is rather insecure by nature, which is naturally related to her past. When the caretakers enter her kennel, she quickly becomes nervous and doesn't know what to do with herself. She accepts treats cautiously, and sometimes brief petting sessions are possible, but then she quickly withdraws again. However, she gets along very well with other dogs and is quite sociable.
Louis - our amber eye
Louis was found in December 2021 in a dilapidated house in Romania, along with approximately 30 other dogs. This phenomenon is known as animal hoarding. Animals are collected by a person until they can no longer care for them and abandon them. The animals then usually have to live in their own excrement and are plagued by numerous diseases.
Louis was brought to the animal shelter along with the other dogs and is now receiving comprehensive care. He has been very friendly so far, but withdraws when things get too busy. He enjoys relaxing or playing with the other dogs in the shelter's playground. There, he also allows the caretakers to pet him, whereas he tends to keep his distance in confined spaces, such as his kennel. However, it's clear that he seeks human contact and enjoys being petted.
Fips - the playful one
Little Fips is approximately 2-4 years old and was rescued from a kill shelter in December 2021. These so-called "public shelters" are terrible places full of violence and have a profound impact on a poor animal's soul.
Fips is understandably shy, but very friendly and is slowly warming up. Once he opens up a bit, he immediately gets playful and shows his lively side. He's a little cautious around other dogs, but he's showing more and more confidence and improving every day.
Meo - our sheepdog
Meo is a particularly beautiful dog. He was born around 2012, is 60 cm tall and weighs approximately 30 kg. He was rescued from a kill shelter in September 2020 and has been living at the animal shelter of our partner organization, Hunderettung Europa, ever since.
Meo is very affectionate with the people he knows. He's a typical herding dog and not very open to new people. He's also territorial (as this type of dog should be) regarding his space, which is why he barks so much at the fence. He's very playful and easy to handle once he gets to know people. He walks well on a leash. Unfortunately, he doesn't get along very well with other dogs.
Miro - our stray
Our Miro was born around 2017, is 55 cm tall and weighs 20 kg. He has been with our partner animal shelter since March 2021 and was rescued from the streets by our wonderful volunteers. He currently has conjunctivitis, but our competent veterinarians are treating him on-site, so he should be feeling better soon.
He gets along well with other dogs, but so far he's rather reserved and prefers to be alone. Currently, Miro is unfortunately still fearful of people, but we're sure he'll warm up to them over the next few months.
Calibus - our cuddly mouse
Calibus was rescued around 2019, is 65 cm tall and weighs 28 kg. He was found by our partner Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe) at the home of a woman with a mental illness who kept many neglected dogs.
Calibus is a really big baby. He loves lots of attention, hugs, and kisses. He's super playful, very well-behaved on a leash, and curious about everything. He's friendly and gets along well with people and other dogs. Calibus loves going for walks, but he doesn't like sharing his human with other dogs. He can be a bit possessive at times and might squeeze in between other dogs when they're being petted.
Snoopy - our brown-eyed friend
Our Snoopy was born around 2019, is 55cm tall and weighs 35kg. He has been living with our partner animal shelter since last month and, like Sally, was rescued from the area around Tarlungeni.
He is both sociable with other dogs and incredibly sweet with people. Unfortunately, he has the typical branding scar on his muzzle that many people in Romania give their dogs, believing it protects them from disease.
Sally - our pointy-nosed girl
Our sweet dog Sally was rescued together with Snoopy. She was born around 2021, is 50 cm tall and weighs 25 kg.
She is also very sociable, both with other dogs and with people, and has settled in wonderfully at the shelter. The caretakers are especially fond of her, as she has mastered the puppy-dog eyes, as you can see in the picture.
Peanut - our anxious one
Our Peanut, like the other furry friends, arrived at our partner animal shelter in June 2022 and was born around 2019. Sadly, the little darling was simply abandoned on the street by her previous owners, which truly breaks our hearts.
She is very sociable with dogs, but unfortunately still extremely fearful of people. Our partners at Dog Rescue Europe will continue to work intensively with her so that she learns to trust people again.
Willow - our dog mom
Our dog Willow has been at the animal shelter of our partner Hunderettung Europa eV since June 2022 and was born around 2019. This sweet dog is social with both people and other dogs.
At first, she was very timid, especially when she was with her baby. Now, however, she's overjoyed when you come near her and even starts to "smile" when you call her name. She's also incredibly playful and very clever.
Susi - our brave mouse
Susi, a female dog, has been with our partner animal shelter since June 2022 and was born around 2021. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car on the street.
She suffered a broken pelvis and has already undergone surgery. She is currently learning to walk again and is receiving physiotherapy. She is social with both people and other dogs, even though she is rather shy.
Tinka - our pointy-nosed girl
She is a beautiful female dog who was rescued from the streets two days ago by our partner, Hunderettung Europa (Dog Rescue Europe). She is approximately two years old and now lives in the animal shelter, where she can settle in safely and get to know our animal caretakers in peace.
As you probably know, street dogs in countries like Romania don't have it easy. They are often attacked, tortured, and killed simply for living on the streets. Tinka was one of these dogs who had to fight for her survival every single day.
Buddy - our sweet little dog
Buddy was born around May 2022, is 30cm tall and weighs 10kg. He was fortunately rescued from the kill shelter in December 2022, along with many other dogs, as part of the last rescue operation.
Buddy is very sociable with other dogs and people. According to our animal caretakers, he clearly enjoys human contact but is still unsure whether he can fully trust us. Of course, we will be working on this continuously so that he can regain his trust in people. Otherwise, he is a truly sweet and lovely little dog.
Merlin - our little patient
Merlin, our new sponsored dog, has unfortunately had a rough start in life. The little male dog was simply abandoned by his owner and had to wander around alone until he was finally found by our animal rescuers. We were all very shocked when we saw Merlin's inflamed eye and immediately took him to the vet.
Although he is already 14 years old, he is fighting bravely and not giving up. Our veterinarians are taking loving care of him, and we hope he will soon be healthy again. Merlin is a true treasure and deserves to spend many more happy years in a loving home.
